Popped Sorghum with Sorghum

No that's not pop corn that's popped sorghum. Much like corn, sorghum is also a grass, but unlike corn, sorghum is not omnipresent in the typical American's diet. Sorghum is a grain and if you haven't had it, you should try it and break out of your quinoa heavy diet. Oh and did I mention that it's gluten free?

What are those tiny beads? They're actually sorghum syrup, which is a lot like molasses, but has more complex flavor and isn't as heavy.

If you're looking for some sorghum I recommend going with Bob's Red Mill.

Do you need Bourbon Barrel Aged Sorghum Syrup? Probably not, but should you get some? Absolutely! I recommend going with Oak and Salt.

Popped Sorghum with Sorghum

  • 1/2 cup Sorghum Grain
  • 1 teaspoon Sorghum Syrup
  • FInishing Salt
  • 1 Brown Paper Lunch Bag
  • 1 Staple
  1. Place the sorghum grain in the paper bag.
  2. Fold it close and staple it shut.
  3. Place in microwave and run on the popcorn setting. Don't worry that one staple is going to be fine in your microwave.
  4. Once the grains have stopped popped remove from bag and place in a bowl.
  5. Drizzle the sorghum syrup over the popped sorghum and top with your favorite finishing salt. Eat with a spoon (it's sticky) or pour milk over it and eat as a cereal. Enjoy!
